The most common refrigerants used in air conditioning for many years include:

2. Chlorofluorocarbons. The damage to ozone is slightly smaller, but it is required to be phased out in accordance with the 2010 Clean Air Act and will be completely phased out in 2020.

3. Hydrofluorocarbons. The mixture does not contain chlorine, which is safer for the environment. It is now used to replace other refrigerants. The air conditioners that operate are more efficient, better air quality, more comfortable, and more reliable.

Air conditioning refrigerant is more suitable for the environment than other types of refrigerants, but it is not 100% safe. This fact prompted the Environmental Protection Agency to formulate some rules on refrigerant handling and disposal:

1. It is forbidden to intentionally discharge refrigerant. Low-loss accessories must be used to limit the amount of refrigerant released when purging, connecting or disconnecting the air conditioner.

2. The technicians must do their best to recover and dispose of the refrigerant.

3. Air conditioners and other appliances that use refrigerants must be handled in accordance with the disposal rules.

4. The refrigerant leakage must be repaired within 30 days.

5. Only licensed heating, ventilation and air-conditioning companies and technicians can purchase refrigerants.
